DAB Radio vs AM & FM
In traditional AM and FM transmissions, radio waves directly mimic the original sound but these radio waves are sensitive to 'noise' coming from electrical equipment and the atmosphere. The signals can also be interrupted or distorted when they bounce off tall buildings and hills (this is called multipath distortion). With FM, a radio station needs to use many different frequencies to allow it to be picked up over a large area. Certain FM transmissions purposely distort the signal by "compressing" it to try and overcome the hiss of FM or to create a more appealing sound for rock and pop. This may be acceptable for some stations but not when you want to enjoy the full range of classical orchestral sound.
DAB radio is much more efficient in its use of the radio spectrum, freeing up more space to transmit new stations and extra services. More digital capacity can be made available to allow classical stations to broadcast music in its purest form, without the compression used on FM.  The digital signal is carried by the radio waves in such a way that the transmission becomes resistant to interference
